A day of rest (enforced, because of big twinge) and a day of drugging myself with paracetamol, seems to have done the trick and the twingey leg has been fine. I tested it yesterday by walking into town and back about 5 miles I think, and not a wince.
So the alarm went off, so did Mr JCR but I stayed in bed. Yup I stayed in bed all morning, reading the paper and barely surfaced in time to beat the April Fool’s deadline.
This is the beginning of Q2, and so my target kms start at zero again. Today no specific plan, I just wanted to make sure I could run. I started off near London Wall and the Crossrail work continues, it is amazing what they get done. I’m no engineer, but it is fascinating to see a new London emerge from all their work,
I was aiming to run up West, because with Easter Sunday upon us, most of the shops are shut, so I thought the West End might be quiet – ooh what a fool you are JCR, it was heaving. I’m guessing most of the tourists, either ended up in the Scotch Steak House or Maccy D’s as unless you wanted to buy tourist tat, there were no mainstream shops or stores open.
I was running up Regent Street and there was a family of three people in front of me , The dad was a mobile traffic jam, as I tried to duck and dive to one side, he instinctively seemed to move the same way just fraction of a second before I did. In the end his teenage daughter who had spotted me, said in the tone only a teenage daughter can ‘Dad, get out of the way, you’re blocking her path’. I duly bombed past and put my hand up to say thanks – after his ritual humiliation, it seemed the least I could do.
I headed towards Tottenham Court Road to take a different route home and it was certainly a lot quieter here and in Bloomsbury. At about 8kms in, I was feeling a little tired so quite surprised when at the 10km mark, I had been running for just over an hour. That’s not a bad pace for me, considering the rather worrying twinges I’d been having.
Anyway, job done a shade over 12km and I didn’t make an April Fool of myself. The second quarter has got off to a great start.
And a big thank you to Jeanie of C25K who sponsored me today – her dad has Alzheimer’s also, so thank you Jeanie that is very, very kind of you.
